How Much Does Lawn Aeration Cost by Lawn Size?

Compare published lawn-aeration fees by area, cash and card prices, core counts, seasonal timing and the separate cost of seed, fertilizer or topdressing.

A lawn-aeration quote should identify the area to be treated, whether the machine removes soil plugs and how thoroughly it covers the lawn. Price alone cannot show whether two contractors will perform the same work. Seed, fertilizer and a layer of compost can turn a simple aeration visit into a much larger package.

The examples here are two lawn companies’ own published fees checked in October 2026, with timing and equipment guidance from Iowa State University Extension. The companies serve different climates and markets. Their prices are examples to compare with a local quote, rather than a nationwide rate range.

Key figures

  • $155 Denmark Lawn aeration, up to 5,000 square feet
  • $285 Denmark Lawn aeration, 5,000–10,000 square feet
  • $415 Denmark Lawn aeration, 10,000–15,000 square feet

Lawn area determines the published price band

Denmark Lawn’s Fort Worth aeration page lists fees by treated lawn size. Its published September 2026 schedule starts at $155 for up to five thousand square feet. Larger lawns move into higher brackets, and the two largest bands shown below list ranges rather than one fixed amount.

Denmark Lawn’s listed lawn-area bandPublished aeration fee
Up to 5,000 square feet$155
5,000–10,000 square feet$285
10,000–15,000 square feet$415
15,000–25,000 square feet$515–$619
25,000–40,000 square feet$725–$875
40,000–60,000 square feet$955–$1,185

Source note: Denmark Lawn’s own Fort Worth service page, checked in October 2026. The printed brackets share boundary numbers; confirm how the provider classifies an area exactly at a boundary. Areas above 60,000 square feet require a custom quote.

  • 10,000–15,000 square feet$415

Use the lawn area, not the full property area. A lot containing a house, driveway, deck and planting beds has less grass than its recorded lot size. Ask whether front and back lawns, narrow side strips and grass beyond a gate are included in the measurement.

For examples away from the bracket boundaries, four thousand square feet fits the $155 entry band, eight thousand fits the $285 band and twelve thousand fits the $415 band. Their implied costs are about $38.75, $35.63 and $34.58 per thousand square feet. Those calculations explain the listed fees; they do not turn them into a per-foot offer for other properties.

Seasonal packages change the cash and card totals

Lawn Cowboys publishes spring aeration estimates of $80 by card and $75 cash for lawns up to five thousand square feet. Fall aeration is $99 by card or $90 cash. The company says the firm price follows measurement, so a web estimate should not be treated as a confirmed fee for every address.

Its prepaid spring-and-fall package is $160 by card or $155 cash. Buying the two visits separately totals $179 by card and $165 cash. The package saves $19 or $10 respectively if both visits take place under the quoted terms.

That package is not automatically the cheaper choice for a lawn requiring only one visit. Against an $80 spring visit, the $160 card package spends another $80 to obtain fall work. Compare the lawn’s condition and the agreed schedule before purchasing a second visit solely to receive a discount.

The same price page offers packages with fertilizer and seed. A spring aeration-plus-fertilizer offer at $120 by card is a different purchase from $80 aeration alone. Confirm the product, application and treated area before calling the higher total an aeration price increase.

Core removal and pass count define the work

Iowa State distinguishes core aeration from tools that merely puncture the soil. Hollow tines remove plugs; solid spikes can compact the soil around their holes. A quote should name the process instead of using “aeration” to describe both interchangeably.

The extension guide describes cores around three-quarters of an inch in diameter and three inches long, with twenty to forty holes per square foot for thorough aeration. It says several passes are usually needed. Those figures provide a scope question for the contractor, rather than a promise that every machine produces identical plugs.

Lawn Cowboys describes six to nine holes per square foot from a single pass. That is not the same coverage as the extension’s twenty-to-forty-hole guidance. Ask whether a second or crossing pass is included, how access affects coverage and which dense or heavily used areas receive additional attention.

Grass type and climate determine the season

Iowa State’s guidance for its cool-season lawn conditions identifies September and April as favorable times. It describes twice-yearly aeration for heavily trafficked or clay-soil lawns and once yearly for established, well-drained lawns with little traffic. Those schedules have a climate and lawn-condition context.

Denmark Lawn identifies May and June as its local aeration season for actively growing Bermuda grass in Fort Worth. Applying Iowa’s dates to a dormant warm-season lawn would confuse two different growing patterns. Ask which grass is being treated and when it can recover from the work.

Soil moisture also matters. Iowa State describes moist soil as easier to core than either very wet or very dry ground. Agree whether watering before the visit is required, how rain affects scheduling and whether a postponed visit retains the prepaid rate. Do not assume that more water always improves the result.

If watering equipment is part of the plan, the drip-installation guide discusses a different watering system for planted beds. Lawn aeration does not price the repair of irrigation leaks or drainage problems.

Extras and access belong outside the base fee

Seed, fertilizer, compost and sand can each be separately priced. A hypothetical $155 aeration visit plus $60 of seed and $40 of fertilizer totals $255. Those two added amounts are assumptions, not Denmark Lawn’s published package prices. Replace them with the provider’s offered products and quantities.

For topdressing, define the material and depth as well as the area. A thin compost layer involves buying, delivering and spreading material; it is not included merely because a service page mentions it as an option. Ask whether hauling and cleanup are charged separately.

Buried equipment and access affect the job

Identify irrigation heads, shallow lines and other vulnerable features before the visit, and tell the contractor about gates, slopes and underground systems. Agree how those areas are avoided or treated; an inexpensive pass is not good value if it damages equipment or leaves the main lawn untreated.

The garden-fence quote guide explains how gates and boundaries affect another garden project. A gate wide enough for a person may still limit a service machine. The mower repair guide covers keeping mowing equipment available while lawn work is scheduled.

Ask for a quote identifying measured area, core-removing equipment, passes, timing, access and optional treatments. Those details make it possible to compare a single visit, a prepaid package and a larger renovation without treating every lawn package as the same service.

Questions people ask

What does the cited Fort Worth provider charge for a small lawn?

Denmark Lawn lists $155 for up to 5,000 square feet. Confirm the measured grass area, exact bracket boundary and included work before booking.

What is the Colorado provider's two-visit package saving?

Its $160 card package is $19 below separate $80 spring and $99 fall estimates. Its $155 cash package saves $10 against $75 plus $90. Both visits must be used for those comparisons.

Are spikes and core aeration the same service?

No. Hollow tines remove plugs. Iowa State explains that solid spikes can compact soil around their holes. Ask which equipment and how many passes the quote includes.

Should every lawn be aerated in April or September?

No. Those dates come from Iowa's cool-season context. Denmark Lawn identifies May and June for actively growing Bermuda in Fort Worth. Grass, climate and soil conditions determine timing.
