Sliding Patio Door Lock Repair Cost: Parts and Labor

See manufacturer lock and strike prices, separate repair labor from parts, and decide whether a sliding patio door needs adjustment or new hardware.

Sliding patio door lock repair can involve a small strike, the latch mechanism, exterior key access or adjustment of the operating panel. Those repairs do not have the same parts price or labor scope. The door brand, series and symptom determine which comparison makes sense.

The October 2026 examples below use Andersen’s own 100 Series parts catalog and one locksmith’s published labor starting price. They are reference prices for named parts and a separate service market, not a bundled offer or proof that an Andersen part will fit another patio door. Freight, tax, visit fees and adjustment can change the total.

Key figures

  • $110.62 Andersen 100 Series white replacement lock, parts only
  • $7.37 Andersen 100 Series lock strike, parts only
  • $81.18 Andersen 100 Series white foot lock, parts only

The failing component determines the parts budget

Andersen lists several 100 Series replacement locks at $110.62, including white part 9131705, sandtone part 9131706 and black part 9144661. Its lock strike, part 9046361, is $7.37. Exterior keyed lock 9130507 is $122.96. A repair estimate calling all of those “the lock” hides the reason for the charge.

The catalog shows why a low parts price cannot diagnose a fault. The $6.12 plug is not a replacement for a failed $110.62 mechanism. The auxiliary foot lock is an additional item, not automatically a repair of the main latch. A contractor should name the failed component and explain any added accessory.

Keep the door’s identification and available service history with the estimate. Give the repairer photographs of the handle, latch area and product label, where accessible. Manufacturer guidance can distinguish hardware families that look similar from outside. A generic listing that says “sliding patio door” is not enough to establish a fit.

Misalignment can mimic a broken lock

A latch can fail to meet its strike because the panel or hardware is out of alignment. The handle may seem broken even when the mechanism operates away from the frame. Andersen maintains separate guidance for adjusting the operating panel and for replacing or adjusting locking hardware. That separation belongs in the repair diagnosis.

Tell the repairer what happens during ordinary use: whether the door rolls unevenly, whether the latch misses its receiving point, and whether the problem developed suddenly or gradually. Do not force a bolt into place to demonstrate it. An explanation of the symptom is more useful than ordering a part based only on a handle’s appearance.

The sliding door and window security guide covers the wider entrance. A repaired latch does not establish that a damaged frame, loose track or worn roller has been fixed. Put those jobs on separate lines if they contribute to the fault.

When adjustment is proposed instead of replacement, ask which component will be adjusted and how normal latching will be demonstrated. When replacement is proposed, ask why adjustment will not solve the symptom. This is a choice between repairs with different results, not merely between cheap and expensive parts.

Labor and a visit fee belong beside the part

Rekey Republic in San Diego County advertises sliding-door and gate-lock repair labor from $99. That starting labor figure does not include every manufacturer’s part, and its general price list also publishes a $49 service call. Ask whether the latter applies to the proposed repair and how extra work is handled.

Combining the $99 starting labor with Andersen’s $110.62 replacement lock gives an illustrative $209.62 subtotal. If a separate $49 visit charge applies, it becomes $258.62. This calculation combines two independently published inputs; it is not a quote from the locksmith for fitting that Andersen part. The contractor’s diagnosis, market and supply charge still govern the booking.

Using the same labor assumption with the $7.37 strike gives $106.37 before a visit fee. That is $103.25 less than the mechanism example because the parts are different, not because either repair takes the same time. Ask for the repairer’s labor charge for the chosen operation rather than assuming all catalog items share one installation fee.

Compare proposals for the same symptom and door. One may include alignment, another may include only hardware replacement, and a third may propose a new handleset. A larger total can be reasonable when it includes a repair omitted from a smaller one; the line items should make that difference visible.

Key access and added locks are separate decisions

An exterior keyed lock addresses access from outside. A failed interior latch or panel alignment problem is a different job. Have the estimate state whether existing keys will continue to work, whether a cylinder is being replaced or rekeyed, and how many copies are supplied.

If other entrances are changing keys at the same time, the house-lock rekeying price guide shows why the service call and cylinder count matter. Combining work into one visit can affect the total, but it does not make incompatible lock families share a key.

The $81.18 auxiliary foot lock is an example of an accessory whose cost should be assessed separately. Ask how it affects everyday operation and emergency exit. A secondary device should not hide a defective main latch or make an entrance unusable for a household member.

Visible handles help identify the entrance, but the door series and failing component determine the replacement part. This photo is not identified as an Andersen 100 Series installation.

Hardware finish also belongs in the order. The examples show equal prices for several finishes of replacement lock, but other catalog products can differ. Do not infer that every component or full handleset has the same finish options or price from those three entries.

A successful repair latches with the door closed

The repairer’s demonstration should include ordinary opening, closing, latching and unlocking, not just turning the handle with the door open. Have the provider explain any unresolved track or frame defect before accepting a lock-only repair. Collect the fitted part number and retain the invoice for later service.

Exit operation belongs in the repair

Have damaged panels, frames and exit-safety concerns assessed by a licensed door or lock professional. The repair and any added device should preserve the required way out; an online parts comparison cannot approve a door configuration.

Ask which warranty covers the supplied part and which covers labor or a return visit. The FTC explains that warranty coverage and remedies depend on the terms. Existing-door adjustment, replacement hardware and another contractor’s work may be treated differently. A dated invoice naming the repair is more helpful than an informal promise that the door is “secure.”

Questions people ask

How much does a sliding patio door lock cost?

Named Andersen 100 Series examples include $110.62 replacement locks, a $7.37 strike and a $122.96 exterior keyed lock. They are parts prices for different jobs, excluding installation.

What is a published labor starting price?

Rekey Republic in San Diego lists sliding-door and gate-lock repair labor from $99. Confirm hardware, the service call and any alignment or frame work in the proposal.

Will any universal patio lock fit?

Do not assume so. Identify the manufacturer, door series and component before using a catalog part or accepting a compatibility promise.

Why can a lock work with the door open but fail when closed?

Misalignment between the panel, latch and strike can prevent engagement. Have the repairer distinguish that problem from a broken mechanism.
